| Elizabeth Kelly, was
born November 21, 1862 in Elgin, Illinois and came to Emmetsburg as a
youth. On October 18, 1885, she was united into marriage in Emmetsburg,
to John Thomas Maguire. John was born July 20, 1860 in Allamakee County,
Iowa. His parents were Patrick and Mary (O'Regan) Maguire. He came to
the Ayrshire-Curlew area with his brothers, Pat and Lou, in the 1880's
and bought a farm in Booth Township. John and Elizabeth owned and
operated a general store in the early 1900's in Ayrshire.
The 1925 census shows that Elizabeth was
62, and she was living in Ayrshire with Mary (30) and Edward (26). It
was also listed that Mary and Edward both had an 8th grade education.
Elizabeth and her younger sister, Ellen
Eve, were married to Maguire brothers.

Mrs. John Maguire
Dies; Former Resident
Mrs. John Maguire former well
know resident of Emmetsburg and Booth Township, died Sunday
night at 8:30 o=clock in St. James hospital, St. James Minn.,
following a serious illness. She was 94 years old, and had a
wide acquaints in Palo Alto Co. |
Elizabeth died July 1957, and John died
May 29, 1930 in Ayrshire, Iowa, they are both buried at St. John's
Cemetery in Emmetsburg.
They became the parents of nine
children: Loretta, Anna, Maggie, Agnes, Mary, Ruth, Edward, Gertrude,
and Maurice, all born in Booth Township, Palo Alto Co., Iowa. |
